The art print focuses on protecting the whales in Norway and sheds light on the problem surrounding whaling in the country. By killing whales, we harm the whales, the ocean - and ourselves.
It is 40 years since the world decided to protect whales and introduce a halt to whaling - the "whaling moratorium". But Norway continues to kill whales in violation of the international environmental agreement. It's time to appreciate live whales!
As of today, Norway kills more whales than any other country, and is one of only three countries that allows commercial whaling. The other two countries that conduct whaling are Japan and Iceland - but Iceland has announced that they will stop whaling in 2024. During the last few years, Norway has killed approx. five times as many whales as Japan, while Iceland has had almost no fishing for several years. Since the protection, Norway has killed more than 15,000 whales. - Stopphvalfangst.no
"There is no humane way to kill a whale (…) Just because certain cultures have had long-standing traditions does not mean that they need to be acceptable." -David Attenborough
